Gary is a recent graduate from the Stanford Graduate School of Business (GSB) and was the 2015 GSB Social Innovation Fellow. Core to his belief is that talent should always be rewarded regardless of the context one grows up in. He and his co-founder Rebecca Hui gained the inspiration for Roots Studio from their prior project, converting a 50-seater bus into a mobile classroom in India. Constantly hearing that IT jobs and migration to the city were the only paths forward, Gary and Rebecca set out to create tools that could leverage the skills indigenous to rural areas to make the livelihood in the village more sustainable.

Venture: Roots Studio helps rural artists increase their income by finding new monetization channels via the digitized versions of their creations. In digital format, Roots Studio can distribute their works instantly over the internet, bypassing the physical shipping of goods and taking significant costs out of the value chain.
