Halcyon Stage partners with the Howard Theatre, Urban Artistry, and the D.C.-based Guerrilla Arts to bring Visions of the Future

Experience an evening of progressive hip hop – fresh tracks, slick rhymes and explosive dance moves abound as we launch the Halcyon Stage House Party series.

Led by Gabriel ‘Asheru’ Benn and Halcyon Fellow, Tarik ‘Konshens the MC’ Davis, expect a charged house party atmosphere to provoke conversation about complex challenges in today’s society. This event also features GRAMMY-nominated D.C. legends Koyaki and Maimouna Youssef, a classical quintet, and an epic dance battle between a hip hop dancer, a ballet dancer, a flamenco artist, and a classical Indian dancer.

Asheru will also present The Philosopher's Stone, a musical mashup and collaboration with acclaimed producer, DJ Roddy Rod and GRAMMY-nominated singer, Wayna. The group's first single and video, "What Do We Have to Lose," made waves in Fall 2016 for its rhythmic and political message, and is a sign of more to come from the supergroup in Spring 2017.

Together with KIPP D.C. College Preparatory, Urban Artistry and Guerrilla Arts, we are dedicated to empowering the Washington, D.C. youth by telling their stories through music, rhyme, dance, and visual arts with the Halcyon Stage Hip Hop Workshop, an initiative launched in March 2017 alongside the Halcyon Stage House Party series.

Using the theme Visions of the Future, the inaugural group of students in the Halcyon Stage Hip Hop Workshop wrote and recorded an original hip hop piece, choreographed their own hip hop dance, and created four original pieces of street art. The new single, dance work, and artwork will premiere as part of the April 8th evening.

Cash bar and complimentary valet parking available.
