Renowned composer and jazz pianist Jason Moran will perform a response to Nick Cave's dramatic installation at the Washington National Cathedral. Cave's piece, a newly commissioned video installation on faith, love, and loss, will be projected beneath the Cathedral's rose window. An experienced collaborator for theatrical installations, Moran is known for pulling elements of post-bop and avant-garde jazz, blues, classical music, stride piano, and hip hop into his compositions. But what his response to Cave's work will consist of remains to be seen in this one-night-only performance.
Pianist, composer and educator, Jason Moran has produced ten albums and six film soundtracks, including scores for Ava DuVernay’s Selma and 13th. In 2007, Moran was commissioned to create IN MY MIND: Monk at Town Hall, 1959. Recent releases include The Armory Concert (2016), Thanksgiving at the Vanguard (2017), BANGS (2017) MASS (Howl,;eon) under his own label Yes Records. In 2010 Moran was awarded a MacArthur fellowship and is the Artistic Director for Jazz at The Kennedy Center.
